Hyundai has unveiled its latest all-electric SUV, the Elexio, designed exclusively for the Chinese market. Developed under Beijing Hyundai, the joint venture between Hyundai Motor and BAIC Motor, the new model showcases cutting-edge technology and boasts an impressive driving range of over 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge.
On April 21, Beijing Hyundai introduced its “In China, for China, to the World” strategy in Shanghai, marking the global premiere of the Elexio at an exclusive media event. Hyundai described the SUV’s launch as a pivotal moment in its transition from a traditional fuel vehicle leader to an electrification-focused brand.
The reveal highlighted Elexio’s sleek and refined exterior design, while its technical details remain undisclosed. Its precise size is still unclear, but it appears to fit within the range between the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9.

The Elexio introduces a fresh design language, featuring a sleek, grille-less front end with sporty bumper intakes and a full-width LED bar positioned beneath the horizontally aligned headlights. Its profile is defined by sculpted fenders and a dark-finished D-pillar that seamlessly integrates with the rear spoiler. At the back, the Elexio showcases high-mounted full-width LED lights, bold badging, and distinctive graphic elements on the bumper.
Hyundai has hinted at the Elexio’s minimalist interior, featuring an intelligent interface with no physical buttons and a digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system, powered by the Qualcomm SA8295 chip, ensures seamless connectivity. Designed for practicality, the cabin offers ample storage, while ADAS technology enables Level 2+ autonomous driving capabilities.
The new SUV is built on the E-GMP platform, which serves as the foundation for various Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EVs. Its yet-to-be-disclosed battery is expected to offer over 700 km (435 miles) of range, likely based on CTLC testing standards in China. It supports rapid charging, enabling a 30-80% recharge in just 27 minutes. The battery is securely encased in a reinforced structure that meets crash safety standards.
