Xiaomi’s automotive division has captured global attention with its debut electric sedan, the Xiaomi SU7, unveiled in 2024. The SU7 Ultra recently set a new benchmark for production electric vehicles by recording a lap time of 7 minutes and 4.957 seconds at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, establishing itself as the fastest EV of its kind to ever complete the circuit.
Xiaomi declared recently that its SU7 Ultra had completed the lap of the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 4.957 seconds. With that performance, it shattered the previous production EV lap record of 7:05.298, set by the Rimac Nevera in August 2023. The SU7 Ultra not only outpaced the Rimac but also surpassed the electric sedan benchmark of 7:07.55, previously held by a pre-production Porsche Taycan Turbo GT—beating it by more than two and a half seconds.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife has become a key proving ground for automakers, especially as battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increasingly emerge as a compelling substitute for conventional combustion-engine cars.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra had already made its mark on the legendary ‘Green Hell’ before its latest accomplishment. In October 2024, a lightweight prototype version of the sedan delivered a stunning performance, setting a 6:46.874 lap time and breaking the record for four-door vehicles. Although it wasn’t a full production model, the achievement was even more remarkable given that the track was partially wet and the car experienced a 12-second power drop during the run.

The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was unveiled in late February, delivering a formidable peak output of 1,548 PS, positioning it among the most powerful electric vehicles available in China. With a starting price of RMB 529,900 ($73,740), the SU7 Ultra costs approximately 2.5 times more than the standard SU7 models.
Although Xiaomi currently sells its vehicles exclusively within the Chinese market, the company signaled last year its intention to expand into global markets. The company is also preparing to launch its first electric SUV, the YU7, designed to attract a wider range of EV consumers.
