Ford is expanding its iconic off-road lineup with the launch of electrified Bronco models for the Chinese market. The new ‘Bronco New Energy’ lineup features both a fully electric variant and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), highlighting Ford’s strategic push into China’s EV market.
The debut of the Bronco New Energy marks the third addition to the Bronco range. However, it remains uncertain whether the model will be available beyond the Chinese market.
The Bronco New Energy appears to be more closely aligned with the Bronco Sport crossover, featuring a boxy four-door SUV design rather than the traditional Bronco’s convertible two- or four-door layout. It also borrows several off-road features from its larger sibling, including a hatch-mounted spare tire, generous ground clearance, and aggressive all-terrain tires.
The fully electric Bronco New Energy is equipped with a 105-kWh battery pack and boasts a driving range of up to 403 miles per charge.

Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid variant features a notably large 44-kWh battery for a PHEV, offering an estimated 136 miles of electric-only range and up to 800 miles with a full battery and fuel tank. Its range-extender powertrain suggests that the gasoline engine functions primarily as a generator rather than directly powering the wheels.
Ford has yet to reveal complete performance specs, but the Bronco New Energy models are expected to emphasize versatility and fuel efficiency over the intense off-road prowess of the U.S.-spec Bronco. Despite this shift in focus, the vehicle retains its adventurous spirit through signature design elements such as bold wheel arches, functional roof rails, and rugged bumpers.
The introduction of the Bronco New Energy lineup is strategically targeted at China’s rapidly expanding new-energy vehicle (NEV) market, where electric and plug-in hybrid SUVs are driving strong consumer demand.
