BMW unveiled the Speedtop at the 2025 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the historic car show set against the backdrop of Lake Como, Italy, serving as the successor to last year’s sleek Skytop convertible.
BMW is presenting the latest concept as a fresh take on the classic shooting brake, a design the company has explored multiple times. Over the years, BMW has introduced production models like the Z3 M Coupé and Z4 Coupé, along with the Z4-based Touring Coupé concept unveiled in 2023, each reflecting its continued refinement of the format.
The Speedtop echoes the Skytop’s design, featuring slim headlight slits, a sharp shark-nose, and an illuminated kidney grille with horizontal strakes. A bold character line connects the headlights to the taillights, emphasizing its muscular stance. The key difference is the extended roofline, which transforms it into a hatchback.

The Speedtop is equipped with distinctive 14-spoke wheels featuring a stylish two-tone finish. Its hidden door handles integrate seamlessly into the design, appearing as an upturned chrome accent along the window trim.
The Speedtop’s cabin closely mirrors the Skytop, which itself draws inspiration from the 8-Series coupe. It boasts a two-tone interior with Sundown Maroon leather adorning the dashboard, center console, and upper door panels, while Moonstone White accents the seats and lower sections of the doors. A thin light strip in the headliner echoes the roof’s central spine, and Speedtop badges add a distinctive touch.

The Speedtop lacks rear seats, replacing them with two luggage shelves secured by leather straps. BMW collaborated with the Italian brand Schedoni to design matching bags and a larger duffel for the trunk. The Speedtop comes with BMW’s most powerful currently available V-8 engine. Based on the Skytop’s configuration, it likely has a 617-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission powering all four wheels.
As reported by Car and Driver, BMW limited the Skytop to just 50 units, but the Speedtop will see a slightly larger production run of 70 examples. Although pricing remains undisclosed, the Skytop was rumored to exceed $500,000, suggesting the Speedtop may carry a comparable price tag.
