Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has unveiled its latest model, the Seal 06 EV, at the Chongqing Auto Show, gaining global attention for offering a high-tech, long-range electric sedan at an entry price of under $16,000.
Part of BYD’s Ocean series, the Seal 06 EV is designed to deliver premium features at an accessible price point, marking a significant step in the company’s push to democratise electric mobility both in China and overseas.
The Seal 06 EV is available in three variants, all powered by BYD’s proprietary lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade batteries. Depending on the model, the sedan offers a driving range of 470 km to 545 km (292 to 338 miles) on a single charge. With fast-charging capabilities, the vehicle can reach 80% charge in just 24 minutes using a peak power input of 103 kW.

Performance is another highlight, with options ranging from 110 kW to 160 kW of peak power and up to 330 Nm of torque. The base model accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.1 seconds, while higher-end trims reach the same speed in just 3.1 seconds. All versions come with rear-wheel drive for enhanced handling dynamics.
A standout feature is the introduction of the ‘God’s Eye C’ smart driving system, which uses BYD’s DiPilot 100 platform. Unlike systems that rely on LiDAR, this suite leverages camera-based vision AI to deliver semi-autonomous driving and proactive safety features at a significantly lower cost.

The Seal 06 EV adds to BYD’s expanding Seal family, which now includes hybrid and electric models such as the Seal 05 DM-i, Seal 06 DM-i, Seal 07 DM-i, Seal 06 GT, and the original all-electric Seal. The launch reinforces BYD’s strategy to maintain price stability globally while accelerating EV adoption.
With expanding international availability expected through 2025, the Seal 06 EV is positioned to compete aggressively in global markets. Customers can learn more and book test drives through BYD’s official website and local dealerships.
