General Motors is recalling 62,468 Chevrolet Silverado HD trucks due to a brake pressure issue that could pose a fire risk.
A GM report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on June 25 revealed that a flaw in the brake pressure sensor assembly could result in brake fluid leaking into the pressure switch. This fluid intrusion may trigger an electrical short and lead to overheating, causing a potential fire hazard regardless of whether the vehicle is parked or in use.
The recall applies to specific Chevrolet Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD trucks manufactured between the 2019 and 2024 model years.
“Vehicles prior to the 2019 model year use a different design and are not affected by this recall,” the company said in a statement. “2024 model year vehicles produced with a brake switch wire harness that includes a silicone sealant are not affected by this recall,” it added.

The majority of affected vehicles are 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 5500 HD models manufactured between January 20, 2023, and March 19, 2024. According to production data, approximately 10,097 of these trucks may be at risk of malfunction, General Motors reported.
The company intends to send notification letters to affected vehicle owners by July 28, with a second round of mailings to follow once the necessary repair becomes available.
GM will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness with an updated version that includes a silicone sealant designed to block brake fluid from leaking into the system. The automaker has reportedly been using this revised component in new truck production since September 2024.
Until repairs are completed, GM is suggesting vehicle owners park the trucks outside and at a safe distance from any buildings. The company has logged 160 field reports related to the defect, one of which involved a fire.
