Global auto suppliers Katcon Global and Tata AutoComp Systems have announced the formation of a joint venture in Monterrey, Mexico, to manufacture advanced composite materials for the automotive industry.
The new entity aims to develop lightweight solutions for a wide range of vehicles, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, agricultural tractors, and off-road equipment. It also plans to cater to specialised non-automotive sectors. The initiative builds on the companies’ 13-year partnership in India, primarily focused on exhaust systems and emission after-treatment solutions.

Katcon Global, founded in Monterrey in 1993, operates 11 manufacturing facilities and five technology centers across North America, Europe, and Asia. The company is known for its expertise in exhaust systems, thermal insulation, and advanced material components, supplying leading OEMs across global markets.
Tata AutoComp Systems, a Tata Group enterprise founded in 1995 in Pune, India, operates 61 factories worldwide. The company provides a wide range of automotive components, including parts for electric vehicles, and brings to the new venture its in-house capabilities and patented technologies in composite formulations.

Katcon CEO Carlos Turner highlighted the venture as a strategic move to advance innovation and sustainability in mobility through advanced materials. “With Katcon’s technology and Tata’s expertise, we aim to address the evolving needs of the North American automotive market,” Turner said.
Tata AutoComp Vice Chairman Arvind Goel described the venture as a “reverse model” compared to Tata’s past international partnerships, with Tata contributing proprietary technology for the first time. He noted the involvement of Tata’s award-winning Composite Division, which will lead the technological development using its own formulations and sheet-manufacturing processes.
