MG Australia has updated its 2025 MG 5 small sedan lineup by streamlining the offering to a single, higher-end variant. Following the addition of safety features that recently boosted its ANCAP rating to three stars, the MG 5 will now be available exclusively in the Essence trim. The previously available base model, Vibe, has been discontinued for the new model year, as reported by Car Expert.
The MG 5’s entry price has now climbed to $32,990 drive-away—marking an increase of over $8000 compared to the discontinued Vibe variant, which was previously available at $24,888. This price jump also includes a $4000 rise for the Essence trim, which had earlier been offered at $28,990 drive-away.
The variant arrives with an upgraded suite of safety technologies, such as lane keep assist, emergency lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and intelligent cruise assist for improved driving support. Updations also extend to occupant protection, with seatbelt pre-tensioners fitted to all five seats—including a three-point center rear seatbelt. A new seatbelt warning and reminder system has also been added alongside whiplash-resistant front and rear seats to boost safety during a collision.

The MG 5 has now earned a three-star ANCAP safety rating in June 2025. This marks a turnaround from August 2023, when the MG 5 was among three vehicles handed a zero-star rating by the safety authority—alongside the Mahindra Scorpio SUV and the discontinued Mitsubishi Express van.
Aside from the safety enhancements, MG Australia has confirmed that the 2025 MG 5 Essence remains unchanged in terms of specifications when compared to the 2024 model.
In addition to its recent upgrades, the MG 5 is equipped with sophisticated driver assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), a sport-tuned stability control system, and active corner braking to boost handling and performance.
Adding to its appeal, MG supports the vehicle with one of the most comprehensive new-car warranties in Australia—10 years or 250,000 kilometers.
