American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian is allocating $120 million to develop a massive 1.2 million-square-foot supplier park at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. This initiative is designed to enhance production capacity as the company gears up for the launch of its next-generation R2 electric SUV.
The investment improves Rivian’s EV production efficiency by optimizing material supply logistics. The park will accommodate essential suppliers and foster job growth by creating nearly 100 direct positions within the company.
“We are excited to see this supplier park coming together so quickly. This will be a key enabler to increasing production at the plant in 2026 when we start to build R2 in addition to R1 and our commercial vans,” said Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe.

Currently under construction, the supplier park will enable component manufacturers to set up operations near Rivian’s main facility, ensuring quicker part deliveries and reducing logistics expenses. Additionally, the company plans to construct a tunnel linking the new park directly to its production area, to improve workflow efficiency while minimizing traffic congestion on nearby roads.
Rivian’s Normal facility, which employs around 8,000 workers, currently manufactures the R1T, R1S, and electric delivery vans. To support the upcoming R2 electric SUV set for production in the first half of 2026, the company is expanding its factory to integrate the new model into its lineup.
Some of Rivian’s suppliers will carry out light assembly and manufacturing operations within the supplier park. Meanwhile, Rivian employees will oversee the kitting and sequencing of components before transporting them to the main production facility.

Rivian will receive $16 million in state incentives for its expansion, with $5 million allocated as long-term tax reductions under Illinois’ Reimagining Energy and Vehicles (REV) program. The company will also receive local tax concessions and infrastructure funding, including a $3 million reimbursement from the Town of Normal for sewer work associated with the project.
The facility adds to Rivian’s expanding investments in Normal, backed by $827 million in previously announced state incentives linked to the forthcoming R2 model.
