The UK’s Automotive Council has appointed Steve Marsh, Executive Director of Vehicle Programs at JLR, as its new Industry Co-chair. He will serve alongside Ministerial Co-chair Sarah Jones MP, Minister of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and the Department for Business and Trade.
Established in 2009, the Automotive Council is a key government-industry partnership that guides the strategic direction of the UK automotive sector. Its role has become increasingly vital as the industry undergoes a fundamental shift toward connected, automated, and electrified vehicles (CAEVs) and faces global trade realignments.

Steve Marsh, whose career began as an apprentice and includes senior roles at Nissan both in the UK and the US, brings over 37 years of experience. A staunch advocate for talent development, he sees bridging the industry’s skills gap as a critical priority.
“I am honoured to take on the role of Industry Co-chair of the Automotive Council UK as our sector navigates an evolving global trade environment and the transformative shift towards connected, automated, and electrified vehicles,” said Marsh. “I look forward to working alongside Sarah Jones MP and the Council to help support the UK automotive industry to compete on the global stage, attract investment, and foster the skills needed for our industry’s success.”

Minister Sarah Jones welcomed Marsh’s appointment, highlighting his deep industry expertise and its significance for maintaining the UK’s leadership in automotive innovation. She also expressed gratitude to Adrian Hallmark for his prior contributions and Arun Srinivasan for his interim stewardship.
Under the joint leadership of Marsh and Jones, the Council aims to reinforce the UK’s competitiveness, stimulate investment, especially in the domestic supply chain, and drive progress on decarbonization and digital transformation in the automotive sector.
