The all-electric Volvo EX90 has been awarded the prestigious title of World Luxury Car by the 2025 World Car Awards jury, recognising its blend of Scandinavian design, advanced safety features, and refined comfort. The announcement was made ahead of the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan.
The seven-seat family SUV impressed the jury, comprising 96 automotive journalists from 30 countries, through rigorous test drives and evaluations. They praised the EX90’s powerful yet silent performance, delivered by its 510-horsepower twin electric motors, and its ergonomic, high-comfort interior designed for long journeys.

Håkan Samuelsson, Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Cars, welcomed the recognition, saying, “It was up against some tough competition, but this award proves that the EX90 appeals to some of the most demanding customers across the world.”
The EX90’s design philosophy reflects Volvo’s signature Scandinavian approach where form follows function. Its streamlined front and flush side elements enhance aerodynamics and efficiency. A standout feature is its lidar system, integrated seamlessly into the roofline beneath a low-profile cover, working alongside cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors to deliver comprehensive 360-degree awareness for safer driving.
Inside, the EX90 sets a new standard for quiet, sustainable luxury. Volvo introduced Nordico, a leather-free, high-end upholstery crafted from recycled and bio-sourced materials from Nordic forests. The ambient environment is elevated with LED lighting designed to mimic natural sunlight and back-lit wood decor, offering a warm, refined atmosphere.

Practicality complements luxury in the EX90, with a rare full seven-seat configuration and class-leading cargo capacity. With all seats in use, it offers 324 litres of trunk space, expanding to 697 liters with the third row folded.
This latest honour marks Volvo Cars’ third win at the World Car Awards. Previous accolades include the 2018 World Car of the Year for the XC60 and the 2024 World Urban Car for the EX30. In 2018, Håkan Samuelsson was also named the inaugural World Car Person of the Year, underscoring Volvo’s continued advancement in automotive innovation.
