Volvo Trucks will release its latest electric long-haul vehicle, the Volvo FH Aero Electric, with an official launch and order availability beginning in the second quarter of 2026. The FH Aero Electric has been specifically designed for long-haul transportation, which contributes significantly to trucking-related CO2 emissions and has been challenging to electrify.
The FH Aero Electric can cover distances of up to 600 km on a single charge highlighting its advanced battery technology, which enables rapid recharging in just 40 minutes. This efficiency is achieved through the new Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard, allowing the truck’s battery to recharge from 20% to 80% within that timeframe. As a result, the vehicle offers increased productivity and minimizes downtime, making long-haul electrification more practical than ever.

The new electric truck boasts a total weight of 48 tons, with a payload capacity comparable to that of a conventional diesel truck. The capability is made possible through an additional supporting tag axle in a 6×2 configuration, which accommodates more onboard batteries. The design also enhances weight distribution, effectively balancing the added battery weight alongside heavy trailers.
The truck can accommodate up to eight batteries, offering a total installed capacity of 780 kWh.
The Volvo GH Aero Electric, available in a standard cab, will be a valuable addition to Volvo Trucks’ expanding lineup of electric vehicles. Alongside the truck, Volvo offers comprehensive services, including route analysis for electrification, optimized charging solutions both on the road and at home depots, and detailed monitoring of fleet performance to ensure maximum efficiency.
