Zhengzhou Nissan has introduced the Z9, a plug-in hybrid pickup truck designed for the Chinese market. Comparable in size to the Nissan Frontier Pro, the Z9 boasts an all-electric driving range of more than 35 miles. Starting at just $16,600, it offers an affordable entry into the electrified pickup segment.
Zhengzhou Nissan, the truck-focused division of the Dongfeng-Nissan partnership, has broadened its Z9 lineup with the GE PHEV. The plug-in hybrid model stands as the electrified counterpart to the locally manufactured Nissan Frontier Pro. Prior to the launch, the company had already introduced gasoline and diesel variants of the Z9.

The Nissan Z9 is designed with specifications and pricing similar to the Frontier Pro. While the official price of the Frontier Pro has yet to be revealed, it is expected to be slightly higher than that of the Z9.
The Zhengzhou Nissan Z9 is available from ¥119,900 (approximately $16,600 at current exchange rates) for the gasoline-powered model. For a more eco-friendly choice, the Z9 GE PHEV starts at ¥156,900 ($21,800), remaining more affordable than most midsize pickups on the market.
The plug-in hybrid setup combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a single electric motor. Depending on the trim level, the system produces either 322 hp (240 kW) or 429 hp (320 kW), both delivering a robust peak torque of 800 Nm (590 lb-ft).

The plug-in hybrid model comes with two battery choices. The base variant is equipped with a 17 kWh pack, enabling an EV-only range of 60 km (37 miles). For those seeking greater range, the larger 32.85 kWh battery increases the zero-emission driving distance to 135 km (84 miles). However, these figures are based on the more optimistic NEDC test cycle.
The base Z9 GE PHEV is available from ¥156,900 ($21,800), while the higher-performance version with extended EV range is priced at ¥168,900 ($23,400). The top-tier flagship model, packed with premium features, maxes out at just ¥219,900 ($30,500). For buyers focused on affordability, the entry-level diesel variant with a six-speed manual is offered at an attractive ¥119,900 ($16,600).
